in 2002, chad taylor and vania hawkins founded
intrinsic landscapes, a landscape design + build
practice in anchorage, alaska. intrinsic landscapes
continually pushes to expand the possibilities of
landscape interventions in alaskas northern
climate. a desire to enrich the relationship
between people and their environment has led to a
process based approach to projects which
comprise many interrelated layers that are
interwoven in order to create well defined spaces
and situations. intrinsic landscapes continues to
test concepts involving public space, material
potential, and urban ecology while maintaining a
deeply rooted interest in intimately scaled
projects.
understood as a device to promote collaboration,
intrinsic landscapes embraces a multidisciplinary
approach to projects and works closely with
those involved, from project conception to
completion. intrinsic landscapes continues to
conduct experiments in furniture, sculpture, site
installations and film when not busy searching for
plants.
